The Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Exam consists of two sections. The non-calculator (30-minutes) and the calculator (1-Hour 30-Minutes) sections. The calculator portion of the exam contains the most marks, and in this section, you are provided with an on-screen calculator if you do not have your own. While you do not have to excel in both components to pass, it will still be beneficial to be as prepared as possible. The exam content will vary from paper to paper; the main topic areas are, using numbers, common measures, shapes and space, and handling information and data. However, as each exam paper differs, you can get questions ranging from probability to percentages.

Popular exam boards, such as City and Guilds and Pearson Edexcel, offer Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Exams. However, you have to book through a registered exam centre – you can do this online. Most examination centres only offer one exam board; the centre we recommend is affiliated with three exam boards. The exam boards all follow the same curriculum although it is important to choose carefully as each exam board has their pros and cons. Some differences between the exam boards are the speed of booking, speed of your result, ease of setting up, and exam date availability. Having the option of three exam boards enables you to choose the one that suits your needs.

Can I do the exam online?
Pass Functional Skills offer Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Online Exams which you can do the exam in the comfort of your own home. All you will need is a laptop or computer, a working microphone, and a webcam. There will be an Ofqual-regulated invigilator who will monitor the exam throughout to ensure that the exam is meeting exam regulations.

How long is the Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Exam?
In total, the exam is 2 hours. This is split between the non-calculator section and the calculator section. The non-calculator section is 30-minutes, and the calculator section is 90-minutes.

Can I resit the exam?
Yes, you can. If you fail your exam, the Pass Functional Skills team can help you organise your resit exam.

What is the pass mark?
The pass mark will vary depending on the difficulty of the paper you sit. Generally, if the exam paper is harder – the pass mark will be lower to compensate for the difficulty level.
